A police officer identified as Mmutle has been arrested in connection with the murder of his estranged wife and a 30‑year‑old man named Katlego, who was alleged to be his wife’s lover. According to the IOL, the warrant officer discovered his wife and the alleged lover having sex in an apartment belonging to a friend and opened fire, killing both.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson, Lizzy Suping, said the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, 14 March 2023, in iKageleng, Zeerust, North West province. Suping added that the warrant officer surrendered to police on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone confirmed that the off‑duty officer went to a house in Sandvlakte, where he allegedly fired several shots, instantly killing the 30‑year‑old man and his wife, who was also a police officer stationed at Kopfontein Port of Entry. Mokgwabone said the suspect later turned himself in, and the firearm used in the crime was confiscated. The motive remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
