Ogogo Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer, Daughter Seeks Medical Help

Veteran Nigerian actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known by his stage name Ogogo, has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, his family confirmed in a series of social media appeals for medical assistance.

In a video posted to Instagram on Monday night, the actor’s daughter, Shaki Taiwo, disclosed that doctors had discontinued active treatment due to the advanced nature of the illness. “The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again and that they can’t give him chemo again,” she said, adding that her father had expressed a strong will to live. “My daddy doesn’t want to die. Please, I don’t want my daddy to die. He’s in pain. He’s not happy.”

Shaki Taiwo emphasized that the family was not soliciting financial donations, noting that Senator Yayi had been covering medical expenses. Instead, she appealed for referrals to specialists or alternative practitioners — medical or traditional — capable of intervening at this stage. “If you can treat my daddy medically or traditionally, please, I’m begging in the name of God, help us,” she said.

In a separate post, the actor’s second daughter, Haleemah, revealed that the family only became aware of the diagnosis three weeks ago.

Taiwo Hassan, a mainstay of Nigeria’s film industry for decades, is celebrated for his roles in Yoruba-language cinema and his contributions to Nollywood’s growth. His career spans stage, television, and film, earning him recognition as one of the industry’s most enduring performers.

The public appeals have drawn widespread attention across Nigerian social media, with colleagues, fans, and public figures sharing the family’s request for medical leads. No official update on the actor’s current condition or treatment plan has been issued by his medical team.

As the family continues to explore options, the case has reignited conversations about access to advanced oncology care in Nigeria and the role of community support in navigating critical Health crises.
