Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Alhaji Kawu Baraje has described governors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform as “tenants” in government houses, asserting that the ruling party has lost public confidence ahead of the 2027 general Elections.
Baraje made the remarks while speaking to journalists at Dutse International Airport in Jigawa State, en route to Azare in Bauchi State. He said the PDP had resolved its internal crises and was now better positioned to regain control of states currently governed by the APC.
“The APC people who are occupying the government houses today are tenants,” Baraje said. He attributed the ruling party’s previous electoral gains to divisions within the opposition rather than its own strength.
The former party chairman noted that the PDP accepted the outcomes of the 2015 and 2023 presidential elections in the interest of national peace, despite reservations about the results. He said current public sentiment has shifted dramatically.
“As you can see what is going on now, people are rejecting them totally and clamouring for the return of the PDP. So, it is some kind of revolution,” Baraje added.
He expressed confidence that the party’s renewed unity and reconciliation efforts would strengthen its prospects in the next electoral cycle. Baraje specifically predicted PDP victories in Bauchi, Jigawa, and other states currently under APC control.
The comments come amid heightened political activity and realignments across major parties as they position for the 2027 elections. Opposition parties have intensified efforts to regain ground in APC-controlled states, citing economic hardship and governance concerns as key voter issues.
Political analysts note that while opposition confidence is rising, electoral outcomes will depend on candidate selection, campaign strategy, and the ability to translate public dissatisfaction into votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission has not yet released the official timetable for the 2027 general elections.
