The Police Command in Ebonyi State announced on Wednesday that it has arrested seven suspects in connection with the murder of Omege Village’s traditional ruler, Mr. Igboke Ewa, in Umuezeokaoha, Ezza North Local Government Area. The statement, released to journalists in Abakaliki by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, followed the News Agency of Nigeria’s report that the 76‑year‑old ruler was killed in his palace by suspected hoodlums on February 27.
After the attack, the victim’s son, Mr. Igboke Samuel, filed a formal complaint at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Achiagu, alleging that his father was murdered in cold blood. A petition from the family, dated March 1, was also submitted to the police. The complainant subsequently gave a detailed statement, and during the investigation seven of the ten identified suspects were apprehended.
The arrested individuals are: Nnabuike Emmanuel, 26, known as “Champaign”; Chukwudi Aliewa, 28, known as “Ezza Get Boys”; Obinna Nwampepe, 39; Uchenna Eze, 28; Nwogha George, 29; Nnamdi Paul; and Odo Kenneth. During interrogation, three suspects provided confessional statements and identified additional collaborators who remain at large.
State Commissioner of Police Faleye Olaleye praised the police operatives’ efforts and assured the people of Ebonyi State that the command will continue to fulfill its statutory duties of protecting lives and property while denying criminal elements the opportunity to carry out their nefarious activities.
