The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied that it awarded a contract for printing sensitive election materials to Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Adamawa State. The commission clarified the matter in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee.
The statement explained that a news report had claimed the commission had given the contract to Ahmed, alleging that she owned Binani Printing Press Limited. INEC noted that all procurements undergo open, competitive bidding, and that Binani Printing Press Limited was one of several security‑printing companies that applied to print the commission’s security documents. After inspecting the company’s facilities and conducting due diligence with the Corporate Affairs Commission, INEC determined that Binani met the required technical capacity, security standards, and expertise for the job.
Importantly, the commission confirmed that Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed was not listed as a director of Binani Printing Press Limited. INEC added that it decided to print all security documents for the 2023 General Election domestically to support Nigerian printers and contribute to the national economy. The commission affirmed its commitment to continue rigorous due diligence in all procurement activities.
