The Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii, has rejected the results of the 2023 general election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday. INEC declared the All Progressives Congress candidate, Francis Nwifuru, the winner of the governorship race.

In a statement provided to the media, Odii described the outcome as “a broad‑day robbery of the people’s mandate” in the state. He thanked supporters for turning out in large numbers for the March 18 gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections and expressed gratitude for their belief in his mission to revive Ebonyi State.

Odii lamented the numerous reports of loss of life, property damage, and injuries to voters and citizens across the state. He said the Saturday elections highlighted the severity of security and governance challenges that have become a hallmark of the APC‑led regime. According to Odii, undemocratic forces, fearful of facing the electorate in a free and fair vote, resort to violence and intimidation to impose their agenda. He warned against allowing this pattern of “governance by violence” to become the new reality.

Emphasizing his commitment to peace, Odii stated that violence does not reflect his character. While events may not be unfolding as hoped, he urged calm and the pursuit of legal solutions, rejecting the tactics of the APC regime. He concluded that, although victory may be delayed, it cannot be denied; the people’s mandate remains his mission. “We will not be deterred. The promise of possibility remains alive and strong. By the grace of God, the will of the people shall prevail.”
