The Abia State governor‑elect, Alex Otti, said that paying salaries will be his top priority once he assumes office on May 29. Speaking on Arise Television’s “The Morning Show” on Thursday, Otti also warned residents to expect a “general restructuring” of the state.
Otti, the Labour Party candidate, was declared the winner of the Abia State governorship election on Wednesday, having polled 175,467 votes. His closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party, received 88,529 votes and finished in second place.
He explained that he has already begun engaging with banks and that “the thing they will expect is a general restructuring of Abia.” While he sees no problem in taking loans, he emphasized that the crucial issue is how the loans are used, stating, “Payment of salaries is my priority.” Otti added that his administration will work to create a larger, more robust economy and will do everything possible to ensure economic growth.
Regarding his team, Otti announced that he will appoint officials in the coming days who will be sworn in on May 29. “I will appoint the right people who will help me,” he said, noting that the new administration will address many issues step by step, including revenue generation.
