Kids burnt by grandma survived – Ondo police

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Oyediran Oyeyemi

The Ondo State Police Command has said the two children of a couple allegedly set ablaze alongside their grandmother, simply identified as Iforiti, are still alive.

The 75-year-old woman was reported to have set ablaze her son, Victor; his wife, Rachael; and the couple’s two children at Aponmu community in the Akure South Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

City Round gathered that the grandmother allegedly committed the act around 2am while the victims were asleep.

A source said when the woman was interrogated, she said she committed the act because the victims starved her.

A report said all the victims lost their lives at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where they were rushed to for treatment.

But the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said though the couple died, their children survived.

She added that the 75-year-old suspect was also injured in the inferno.

The PPRO said, “The first thing is to treat her (suspect) because she was affected by the inferno too. The two kids are safe and responding to treatment.”
