Correspondent Johnny Edward has been named Football Journalist of the Year (Print) at the eighth edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, according to Sunday PUNCH. This marks Edward’s fourth consecutive win, having also secured the award last year.

Goalkeeper of the Year went to Francis Uzoho of Omonoia FC, who edged out Hapoel Jerusalem’s shot‑stopper Adebayo Adeleye and Victor Sochima of Rivers United. Defender of the Year was awarded to Ajax’s Calvin Bassey, who beat Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi and Eagles vice‑captain William Troost‑Ekong for the honor.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was crowned King of the Pitch and also named Striker of the Year, surpassing Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi. In the women’s category, Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala won the Queen of the Pitch award, ahead of Gift Monday.

After the ceremony, a tired Osimhen thanked the organizers and expressed his delight at receiving the prizes. The Super Eagles now look to avenge their 1‑0 home loss as they travel to Bissau today for the reverse fixture of their 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
