The Lagos State Ministry of Education has granted permission for students in terminal classes to access Chrisland High School, Opebi, for physical learning ahead of their upcoming examinations. The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, issued a statement updating the public on the case of Whitney Adeniran, a student who died during the school’s inter‑house sport at Agege Stadium.
Mrs. Adefisayo explained that the school will remain closed until all necessary judicial processes overseen by the state’s Ministry of Justice, as well as ongoing administrative inquests conducted by the Office of Education Quality Assurance and other relevant agencies, are completed. She added that arrangements are being made for other categories of students to return to school.
The temporary permission for terminal classes—specifically JSS 3 and SS 3 students—to access the school was granted to enable them to sit for their terminal examinations. The ministry, with support from the Lagos State Joint Task Force on child protection and safeguarding (which includes the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, the Office of Education Quality Assurance, and other ministries, departments, and agencies), will continue to engage with Whitney Adeniran’s family.
