The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met on Thursday and decided to lift the suspensions of several senior members. Among those whose suspensions were revoked are former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Anyim Pius Anyim, Professor Dennis Ityavyar, Dr. Aslam Aliyu, and H.E. Ibrahim Shema. The decision was announced in a statement signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba, who said the matter was thoroughly discussed at the NWC meeting.

The statement emphasized that the reversal does not limit the NWC’s authority to impose disciplinary measures on any party member in accordance with the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017). It called on all leaders, key stakeholders, and members nationwide to adhere to the Constitution and to embrace a spirit of reconciliation, unity, and harmony during this critical period.

The NWC reiterated the party’s focus on recovering the “stolen mandate” awarded to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, by Nigerians on 25 February 2023 at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. It highlighted the need for total reconciliation among party leaders and stakeholders to create a more cohesive organization for the benefit of its members and the Nigerian populace.

In addition, the NWC reversed the referral of Benue State Governor Dr. Samuel Ortom to the National Disciplinary Committee. Earlier, on 23 March 2023, the PDP had suspended Fayose, Anyim, Prof. Ityavyar, and Aslam Aliyu after a comprehensive review of party affairs under the 2017 Constitution. Ortom had also been referred to the disciplinary committee for alleged involvement in anti‑party activities.
