The Independent National Electoral Commission presented Certificates of Return to Niger State’s Governor‑elect, Umar Bago, and the newly elected members of the State House of Assembly on Thursday. National Commissioner for Niger, Kogi and Kwara states, Professor Mohammed Sani Adams, handed the certificate to the Governor‑elect, while the state INEC Commissioner presented certificates to the Deputy Governor‑elect and the elected legislators.
During the ceremony, Governor‑elect Bago outlined a five‑point pact with the people of Niger State, emphasizing security and welfare as its core. The pact includes delivering social amenities, revamping infrastructure, expanding the state’s revenue base by enhancing economic frontiers, and upholding accountability in repositioning the state. He pledged to build a prosperous, functional system that meets every citizen’s needs and vowed not to betray the trust placed in him.
Bago acknowledged the magnitude of the challenges ahead, citing security compromises and youth restiveness as crises that hinder progress. He promised to identify the root causes of these issues and take decisive action to eliminate them, asserting that the state will not rest until it becomes a development model. “Our hands are on the plough, our eyes are trained on new goals, and our hearts are committed to doing well for Nigerlites,” he declared.
He also assured the public that his administration will be inclusive and open, with no preferential treatment, and will strive to create a fair and equitable society that benefits every citizen. The INEC National Commissioner, while handing over the certificate, described the election as one of the finest, freest, and most transparent the country has ever witnessed.
