The Service Compact with All Nigerian Directorate of the University of Calabar has banned indecent dressing among students and staff, effective immediately. The director of SERVICOM, Prof. Patrick Egaga, announced the ban in a statement issued on Friday in Calabar. He said the directorate had observed with grave concern a rise in provocative and unofficial attire, especially among students and some female staff.

Specifically, the following items are no longer tolerated on campus: short skirts or gowns above the knee, open‑back garments, crop tops, braless tops and gowns, spaghetti‑strap and sleeveless tops, hand‑less gowns, bikinis, see‑through or transparent apparel, and clothing that reveals contours. Additional prohibited items include hand‑less gowns, short revealing laps, slit skirts, body‑hugs, V‑necks exposing breasts, tube tops, strip‑less outfits, rag jeans, shorts above the knee, sleeveless shirts, singlets, lingerie, sagged trousers, and similar garments.

The ban takes effect on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Any student or staff member wearing the listed attire will be denied access to university facilities and may face appropriate sanctions. A combined security and administrative task force will be formed to monitor compliance.

Prof. Egaga urged female students and staff to emulate the dressing style of Vice Chancellor Prof. Florence Obi and her deputies. He also called on male students and staff to model their attire after the university’s Council Chairman, Gen. Martin Luther‑Agwai (retd.), and the Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
