Nairobi — Garissa County Woman Representative Udgoon Siyad Kuno is currently the only candidate willing to assume the Deputy Minority Whip position in the National Assembly for the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party. Kuno, who was elected on a Jubilee ticket, says she is up to the task and promises to deliver if given the opportunity to serve.

The development follows the removal of Nominated MP Sabina Chege from the whip during last Thursday’s Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party parliamentary group meeting in Machakos. Azimio leader Raila Odinga is now advocating for legal changes to enforce stricter party discipline. The proposed legislation would require leaders who rebel against the party that sponsored them to seek a fresh mandate from the electorate. Additionally, nominated leaders would have to resign or be stripped of their nominated positions after a disciplinary hearing.
