The Lagos State Sports Commission celebrated the 2023 International Day of Sports for Development and Peace with a three‑day competition for students from 14 junior and senior secondary schools—both private and public—across the state’s six education districts. The event, held in partnership with Sports Global Ambassador Initiatives for Youth Development and Conflict Resolution, aimed to encourage greater youth participation in sports and to bridge the gap between public and private schools.

The opening ceremony took place at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, where Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku, addressed the gathering. In his remarks, he highlighted the benefits of sporting activities for young people and underscored the importance of fostering unity among schools.

Executive Trustee of Ambassador Initiatives for Youth Development and Conflict Resolution, Ndidi Edeoghon, added that the 2023 event brought together students from diverse schools, creating an environment that promotes tolerance, conflict resolution, and collaborative standards.

One of the key components of the three‑day program was an athletics competition held at Caleb British International School in Abijo, Lekki. Participants included students from Oreyo Junior and Senior Secondary Schools (Ijaiye), United Junior and Senior Secondary Schools (Lekki), Pinefield Schools (Lekki), Whitesand Schools (Lekki), Corona Schools (Agbara), among others.
