The Worldwide Air Transport Affiliation formally introduced Ibom Air on Wednesday by presenting its Operational Security Audit (IOSA) certificates. The certificates were received by the administration of Ibom Airways Restricted, led by Chief Government Officer Mfon Udom, at the airline’s headquarters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. They were presented by Samson Fatokun, Space Supervisor for West and Central Africa, and Jennifer Yeates, Assistant Director of Operations, Security and Safety for West and Central Africa.
IOSA, established by IATA in 2003, employs internationally recognized, high‑quality auditing principles to assess the operational management and security controls of airlines, certifying them on an ongoing basis. Consequently, IOSA has become the global standard for airline safety and operational assessment.
In a press release, Group Manager of Advertising, Marketing and Communication Aniekan Essienette announced that Ibom Air’s IOSA audit was conducted in the second half of 2022, just over three years after the airline began commercial operations. The audit’s success was attributed to the airline’s Quality and Safety Team, led by Group Manager of Quality and Safety Edem Essien.
Speaking on behalf of Ibom Air, Chief Operating Officer George Uriesi congratulated the staff on this landmark achievement. He thanked employees for their continued efforts to make the airline a world‑class African regional carrier, as outlined in the company’s visionary mission. “Ibom Air’s attainment of IOSA certification aligns perfectly with our continental ambitions as we position our airline strongly across Africa,” Uriesi said. “Our strategy to expand throughout Africa involves establishing multiple interline agreements and strong partnerships with partner airlines. Being IOSA certified is a prerequisite for this.”
The certification validates the airline’s high operational and safety standards and marks a crucial milestone as Ibom Air expands regional operations and collaborations. “It also moves the airline further in the right direction to fulfill its mission: to build a safe, service‑focused, and profitable airline.”
