The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State expressed optimism on Wednesday that it will emerge victorious in the supplementary election scheduled for Saturday. The party urged eligible voters to honor President‑elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu by voting for its candidates on the ballot.

The Independent Nationwide Electoral Commission had declared April 15, 2023, as the date for the supplementary election in two polling units in Oluyole Federal Constituency and three units each in Ibadan North‑East and Ibadan South‑East local government areas. This decision followed reported irregularities that prevented INEC from declaring winners in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

In a communique issued after a lengthy meeting of party officials at the secretariat in Oke‑Ado, Ibadan, the APC reiterated its support for Tolulope Akande‑Shadipe and Dapo Lam‑Adesina, who are contesting the Oluyole and Ibadan North‑East/South‑East federal constituencies for a second term. The party described the two candidates as the best choice for their constituents, highlighting their competence, expertise and accountability, in contrast to the Peoples Democratic Party and other opponents. Voters in the affected polling units were urged to choose the most effective candidates and reject those who would merely serve Abuja’s interests.

The APC also reminded voters that electing its candidates would reinforce the confidence President‑elect Tinubu has placed in them, and that he will begin to reciprocate this support once sworn in on May 29. Party stakeholders praised the Isaac Omodewu‑led state government committee for delivering the highest number of votes for the president‑elect, securing three senatorial and eight House of Representatives seats in the first election, and lamented the “grand conspiracy” that led to losses in the second ballot.

The communique condemned calls for the dissolution of the Oyo APC government committee, labeling the dissenters as the same disgruntled elements who worked against the party on March 18. It honored the party’s leaders, stalwarts and loyalists for their dedication before, during, and after the elections, and singled out gubernatorial candidate Teslim Folarin for his bravery and statesmanship.

The party also denounced covert attempts by unscrupulous political operators to distort facts and portray themselves as facilitators of the APC’s February 25 electoral success in order to secure appointments and patronage from the president‑elect. Finally, the APC announced that its doors remain open to members of other political parties, assuring that no one will be discriminated against, whether as a new or returning member.

The assembly was attended by all state government committee members, as well as chairmen, secretaries, women and youth leaders from across the 33 local government areas in the state.
