Unknown gunmen kidnapped Popoola Olasupo, an official of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, while he was traveling to his duty post with another corps member. The abduction occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday along the Eledumare‑Fidiwo axis of the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway in the Obafemi‑Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. A source from TRACE, who wished to remain anonymous because of the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed the kidnapping.
According to the source, the gunmen emerged from the bush, opened fire on a commercial bus in which Olasupo was traveling, and abducted only the official. Police officers and some volunteers are currently pursuing the perpetrators. Attempts to obtain a comment from TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi were unsuccessful; he did not answer calls or respond to a text message.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident. “Our anti‑kidnapping squad is already after them. We are combing the forest and we know that they will all be arrested. Ogun State is not a ground for criminals to settle. It is either they leave or we smoke them out of this state,” Oyeyemi said.
