Champions League: Man City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne equals David Beckham’s record

Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, on Wednesday night, equalled the career assist record of Manchester United legend David Beckham.

De Bruyne achieved the feat after providing an assist for teammate Erling Haaland in Manchester City’s Champions League quarter-final second-leg 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich last night.

The assist was De Bruyne’s 259th career assist, equalling the career record of Beckham and doing it in 15,000 fewer minutes than the former England captain.

It won’t be long before De Bruyne will overtake Beckham’s record, and next in his sights are Al-Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 268 assists and Juventus’ Angel di Maria, with 277 assists.

The outcome of the match means Pep Guardiola’s men qualified for the Champions League semi-final on a 4-1 aggregate win, having defeated Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg last week at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City will now face Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final stage in May.
