The Skipper Eye-Q Nigeria has said phone prescriptions and self-medication for eye treatment are not good medical practice.

Speaking at the unveiling of the expansion of Skipper Eye-Q Nigeria Ltd, Ilupeju, Lagos, Medical Director of Skipper Eye-Q Nigeria Dr Temitope Tijani, added that people with perfect vision would get to an age when they would require glasses to read.

“Self-medication is never a good idea. Although I am an ophthalmologist, you can’t call me on phone and tell me you have a problem and expect to get a prescription from me. I would need to examine the eyes with a microscope before a prescription. Something very minute in the eye can cause blindness if not treated in a few weeks.

“Skipper Eye-Q has brought quality eye care into Nigeria. The cost of air-flight to foreign nations is enough to get quality eye care service in the country.

“A lot of people are concerned about these things, hence, they should get eye care. There are also issues like retinal detachment which is a sub-specialty in Ophthalmology. This is a treatment that is widespread but we have the treatment here at Skipper Eye-Q. When people are diabetic or hypertensive and have eye problems, we treat that as well. Tumors in the eye is also treated.”

Chairman and Founder, Eye-Q Group, Dr Ajay Sharma, explained that Eye-Q Group, a specialist Eye Hospital was inaugurated in Nigeria in 2017.

He said, “This is our second centre in Nigeria and we have added superb facilities including operation centres. We have theatres and do surgeries for cataracts and glocouma.”
