Coalition asks Imo Assembly to impeach Uzodinma over killings, workers’ salary

The Coalition for True Governance (CTG) has demanded the impeachment of Imo Governor, Hope Uzodinma over the recurring killings in the state.

The organisation also urged security agencies to beam their searchlight across Imo over the spate of insecurity amid the workers’ industrial action.

A statement on Tuesday by the Convener, Charles Odenigbo, charged members of Imo House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against the governor.

CTG noted that his “lack of action and leadership” in addressing burning issues, have caused significant disruption and fear in the state.

Odenigbo said it is unacceptable that innocent lives are lost on a regular basis, while workers are being forced to take to the streets to demand better pay and working conditions.

“Just a few weeks back, five policemen and a couple were gruesomely killed in Ngor-Okpala area of the state. This is disheartening.”

The group regrets Imo is in the news most times due to the disturbing trend of violent crimes, including kidnappings and murders.

“The ongoing workers’ strike has caused significant disruption to public services, with healthcare and education being severely affected.”

Odenigbo knocked Uzodinma for “falling to take proper steps to address the concerns of workers, and failing to engage in meaningful dialogue”.

“The lawmakers in the state are there for a reason; to serve the people. If the Governor continues failing in his duties, the option of impeachment should be considered,” CTG urged.
