Former Teammate Dimitar Berbatov Believes Wayne Rooney Will Manage Manchester United in the Future

In the world of football, there is always the talk of great players becoming great managers. In recent times, the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Pep Guardiola, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have all had great success as managers after a fabulous playing career. Now, there is talk of another great player in the form of Wayne Rooney taking up a managerial role at Manchester United.

Former teammate of Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, has recently voiced his support and belief in Rooney’s ability to be the next Manchester United manager. In an interview with Betfred, Berbatov said, “Not many players from my time at Manchester United have actually gone into management. But, in my opinion, Wayne Rooney would like to be a future Manchester United manager and I am pretty sure he is going to be.”

Rooney is no stranger to Old Trafford having played for the Red Devils for thirteen seasons, scoring a whopping 253 goals during his tenure and winning several trophies like the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League. He left the club in 2017 to join his boyhood team Everton before leaving for DC United in 2018. Rooney is currently the manager of DC United, where he is gaining vital experience in club management.

Berbatov’s opinion of Rooney becoming the next Manchester United manager is not far-fetched, as Rooney himself hinted at it in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live last year, saying, “Of course, I want to be a manager. But, ultimately, that decision is out of my hands.”

Rooney’s style of play as a footballer was truly remarkable, and there is no doubt that his experience as a player will come in handy if he makes the transition to a successful manager in the future. If he eventually becomes the Manchester United manager, fans of the Red Devils will hope he can replicate the same success he had as a player for the club.
