Lawmaker Alerts on the Killing of Over 100 Persons in Plateau Within 48 Hours

A member of the House of Representatives in Nigeria, Solomon Maren, has raised an alarm over the killing of over 100 persons by terrorists within the last 48 hours in Plateau State. Speaking at a press conference at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Mr Maren revealed that the incidents occurred in his constituency, the Mangu/Bokkos federal constituency. He stated that most of the victims were women and children who were killed during overnight unprovoked attacks by the terrorists, who also set houses, farms, food barns, and seedlings on fire. Allegedly, in the past four months, the death toll in the area has surged to 200 due to incessant attacks by terrorists.

Mr Maren complained about the inadequate support from the federal government, expressing concern that the military had lacked the necessary equipment to fight the terrorists. He also criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for not uttering a word of condemnation against the acts. Mr Maren called on the relevant government entities to provide relief for the people in the affected areas and to safeguard them from future attacks.

The lawmaker’s immediate action and the conference should serve as a wake-up call to the federal government and other well-meaning Nigerians to support the people of Plateau State in their fight against terrorism. The government must take decisive steps towards the plight of the people as the primary responsibility of any government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

In conclusion, we advise the government to take adequate measures to stop the killings in Plateau state and other parts of the country where terrorism has become a critical issue. Nigerians are tired of empty promises; they deserve tangible action as the citizens of any country have the right to security.
