Sultan of Sokoto Instructs Muslims to Search for Dhul-Qadah Moon Crescent

In a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, has reminded muslims to search for the crescent of Dhul-Qadah 1444AH from Friday.

The statement reads “This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that, Friday 19th May 2023, which is equivalent to 29th day of Shawwal 1444AH, shall be the day to look for the new moon of Dhul-Qadah 1444AH. Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Dhul-Qadah 1444AH on Friday and report its sighting to the nearest District or village Head for onward communication to the Sultan.”

Mr Abubakar, who further highlighted the significance of Dhul-Qadah in Islam, called on Allah to help muslims in carrying out the necessary religious obligations.

Dhul-Qadah is the 11th month in the Islamic calendar and is considered one of the four sacred months in Islam. It falls before the month of Dhul-Hajj, which is the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar.

NAN reports that this directive is in line with the Sultanate Council’s effort to ensure that muslims perform their religious duties according to the tenets of Islam.
