Supa Team 4: Netflix’s First African Animated Series to Debut in Summer

Netflix is gearing up for the global release of its first African animated series, Supa Team 4, on July 20th, 2023. The captivating series, created by Zambian writer, Malenga Mulendema, and produced by South Africa’s Triggerfish Animation Studios, follows the story of four schoolgirls who become undercover superheroes defending their city from supervillains on a budget.

The neo-futuristic city of Lusaka serves as a backdrop for the show’s action, which features a retired secret agent who recruits the girls to join his mission to save the world. The team’s evolution from a disparate group of friends to a cohesive group of superheroes forms the backbone of the series.

Mulendema’s distinguished creativity landed her place among eight winners selected from a pan-African talent search, the Triggerfish Story Lab initiative in 2015. With its blend of stunning animation and storytelling, Supa Team 4 is a testament to Mulendema’s talent.

The series boasts an impressive cast, featuring Zowa Ngwira, Namisa Mdlalose, Kimani Arthur, Nancy Sekhokoane, Pamela Nomvete, and John MacMillan. Anthony Silverston, Mike Buckland, Tom van Waveren, Edward Galton, and Amy Keating Rogers serve as the executive producers, with Mulendema acting as the co-executive producer. Ciara Breslin, Cake Entertainment, and Triggerfish are the producers, with Superprod serving as the animation studio.

Supa Team 4 has garnered significant anticipation from fans worldwide, eager to see this colorful cast of characters in action. Netflix’s decision to release the series globally demonstrates its commitment to showcasing diverse content to audiences in every corner of the world.
