NCC’s Unified USSD Codes: A Comprehensive Guide for Mobile Network Users

In recent times, telecommunication companies operating in Nigeria have fully embraced the approval of the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) Unified Unstructured Supplementary Service Date (USSD) codes. This development, which commenced on May 18, 2023, means that the unified USSD codes are now the only means of purchasing airtime and checking mobile networks.

To ensure seamless and effortless navigation on the mobile network, below is a comprehensive guide featuring the NCC-approved Unified USSD codes for all mobile networks in Nigeria:

– Call Centers: 300
– Borrow Services: *303#
– Stop Service: *305#
– Check Balance: *310#
– Credit Recharge: *311#
– Data Plan: *312#
– Data Plan Balance: *323#
– Share Services: *321#

It’s worth noting that the NCC does not intend to change the codes and functions of some pre-existing USSD codes, which include:

– DND: 2442
– Porting services: 3232
– NIN Verification and NIN-SIM Linkage: *996#

In a bid to ensure consumers’ satisfaction and with the need to make USSD codes less cumbersome, the NCC had ordered telecommunication companies in the country to revert to the previous per-second billing model. This reversal is a response to a petition made by the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) to the NCC concerning the pricing of USSD codes being charged by financial institutions in the country.

In conclusion, with the guide above, mobile network users can easily navigate the services that can be accessed through the unified USSD codes without any hassle. However, to avoid running afoul of any regulations, USSD codes not listed in the NCC-approved list should be avoided.
