Former Crystal Palace owner, Simon Jordan, believes that Newcastle United has what it takes to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title in the future. Despite doubts regarding their Premier League status at the start of the season, the Magpies earned a Champions League spot, much to the surprise of many. “I suspect Newcastle will become a force and part of my thinking is that out of the chasing pack of clubs looking to unseat Man City, it may well be Newcastle,” Jordan told talkSPORT. While he doesn’t think they’re ready to challenge next season, Jordan noted that Newcastle is well on their way to becoming a long-term contender. According to Jordan, Newcastle has laid a solid foundation for the club through its excellent efforts so far. Newcastle spent the majority of the 2020/21 season in the top half of the table, which is a considerable accomplishment given their struggles in recent seasons. Newcastle United will debut in the Champions League next season after a 22-year hiatus. Jordan believes that Eddie Howe’s side will play in European football without any respect or fear. He added that Newcastle would invest between £150 million and £250 million in new players during the summer transfer window. As Newcastle supporters look forward to their club’s participation in the Champions League, pundits and fans will be keeping an eye on the Magpies’ future progress in the Premier League. With the potential prospects that lie ahead, we may be seeing an exciting challenge to Manchester City’s dominance in the coming years.
