Atiku Unfazed by Tinubu’s Inauguration Amid Ongoing Petitions

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed his lack of concern over the inauguration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on May 29, despite ongoing petitions seeking to nullify his election victory.

Atiku, who is in a legal battle against Tinubu’s win in the presidential election held on February 25, has consolidated his case with that of the Labour Party’s Peter Obi and Allied Peoples Movement. Speaking through his lead counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, he expressed hope in the judiciary system to uphold justice and restore his mandate.

Atiku reiterated the powers of the court to replace Tinubu from office irrespective of his swearing-in ceremony. “Swearing-in is only a ceremony that does not in any way tie the hands of the court. The taking of an oath binds the person who takes the oath and not the court,” he said.

The hearing on the consolidated petitions will commence on May 30, the day after Tinubu’s inauguration ceremony. Mr Uche SAN applauded the speedy process of the court in determining the petitions.
