Bayelsa Governor accuses Buhari of not initiating any project in the state

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has accused outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari of not initiating any new project in the state during his eight years in power. He made this known during the virtual inauguration and handover ceremony of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Federal Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa, which was started by the Jonathan administration in 2011.

Diri commended the Buhari-led regime for completing key infrastructural projects that were inherited from Jonathan’s administration across the country. Nonetheless, he noted that no new projects were initiated in Bayelsa, despite the relatively high cost of executing infrastructural projects in the state.

He explained that the cost of constructing a kilometre of standard road in Bayelsa could be used to construct four or more kilometres of the same grade of road elsewhere in the country. The governor expressed hope that the federal government would be more cautious in its evaluation and execution of project costs in Bayelsa State.

Buhari, who joined the ceremony virtually, stated that the successful completion of the secretariat projects in Yenagoa, Awka, and Gusau would save the Federal Government from spending on office accommodation for its workers in the three states. The Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Federal Secretariat Project in Yenagoa was handled by MS Trenur Nigeria Limited and has a total of 342 offices, including a post office, a banking hall, and a conference hall named after Ambassador Godknows Igali, a retired federal permanent secretary from Bayelsa State.
