Lawmaker-elect Organises Interdenominational Prayers for Peter Obi’s Mandate Recovery

Member-elect of the House of Representatives for Anaocha-Njikoka-Dunukofia Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Hon. George Ozodinobi has mobilised his constituents for an interdenominational prayer meeting. The purpose of the gathering is to pray for the recovery of the mandate Nigerians gave to Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

Ozodinobi, a member of LP, organised the meeting at Egwegwe Square, in Nimo community, where he is very confident that Obi will recover the mandate unjustly given to someone else. In addition to prayers, the event also had several Christian clergies leading the praise and sermon sessions. Among them were, Rev Fr Venatius Ogbuagu, parish priest of St Mary’s Catholic parish, Ifitedunu, Rev. CC Moloukwu, and Rev. Michael Ufoaro.

While delivering his homily, Fr Ogbuagu said that the country would continue to deteriorate if Nigerians refuse to speak up against injustice. He labeled the outcome of the Presidential election as the theft of the mandate. Ogbuagu also underscored the importance of votes counting in Nigerian politics, stressing that those who steal a mandate will never reckon with the people who voted.

Ozodinobi said that they remain confident of Obi’s victory but fear that the mandate will only take effect with a change in the presidential election timetable, as Obi did in Anambra. He then expressed concern that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will tax Nigerians twice to conduct the Presidential election separately and for others as well.

The lawmaker-elect commended the turnout at the prayer gathering, expressing hope that God will use the judges to rectify the anomaly made during the Presidential election. He added that such a move would herald a real day of jubilation, different from the lacklustre reception when the results were initially announced.
