On Tuesday morning, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Minister of State for Employment, Festus Keyamo, appeared in court for the first time since the Presidential Election Petition Court started hearing.
Keyamo, who served as spokesperson for Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, wore his legal robe for Tuesday’s hearing to defend President Bola Tinubu.
The hearing began today after the court consolidated all the petitions before it on the last adjourned date. Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pete Obi of the Labour Party, and others filed petitions to overturn Tinubu’s victory on the grounds of substantial non-compliance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Atiku, one of the petitioners, asked the court to order a fresh election, citing alleged irregularities at polling units during the presidential poll. Obi, another petitioner, claimed there were various irregularities in the conduct of the election, insisting that Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, were unqualified to run.
On Monday, Tinubu and Shettima were sworn into office at Eagles Square in Abuja by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
