Belgium: Boniface up for POTY award, Orban missing

Belgium: Boniface nominated for POTY award, Orban not included

The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) has announced its nominees for the 2021 Player of the Year (POTY) award, and Belgian football fans will be delighted to hear that one of their own, Kevin Boniface, has been included on the list.

Boniface, who currently plays for the Belgian club Standard Liège, has been in tremendous form this season, scoring numerous goals and making several assists. He has been a key player for his team and is a fan favourite.

However, there was disappointment for supporters of the Belgian national team, as defender Matthijs Orban was not included on the list of nominees for the Young Player of the Year award.

Orban has been a consistent performer for the national team and has also impressed for his club, KRC Genk. His exclusion has raised eyebrows among fans, who feel that he deserved recognition for his excellent form this season.

Despite this snub, the Belgian national team can be proud of the fact that several of their players have been included in the list of nominees for the main POTY award. In addition to Boniface, Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, and Thorgan Hazard are also in contention for the award.

Lukaku has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe this season, scoring an impressive 27 goals in all competitions for his club, Inter Milan. Meanwhile, De Bruyne has been a standout performer for his club, Manchester City, contributing numerous goals and assists to help the team win the Premier League.

Hazard, brother of Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard, has also had an impressive season, helping his club, Borussia Dortmund, reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The winners of the POTY and Young Player of the Year awards will be announced in a ceremony at the end of the season.
