The Ogun State Government has issued a strong warning to filling stations found hoarding petrol following the recent removal of fuel subsidy. This decision was reached on Friday when the government inaugurated a task force to oversee the sales of petroleum products within the state.
The Chairman of the task force, Ola Aikulola who is also the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, disclosed that any petrol filling station found hoarding or dispensing the product inappropriately would have its license and Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) revoked, and it would be shut down.
The task force comprises government officials and security agencies, including a former Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Mr Biyi Odubote.
The decision to take this step was due to the reported hike in fuel prices in the country, with some popular filling stations accused of hoarding petrol in Ogun State.
Speaking further, Aikulola said the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration is committed to ensuring that motorists do not experience any form of hardship in purchasing the product. He added that the governor urged filling stations to be responsible to avoid any inappropriate action.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the government had empowered the task force to enforce its mandate, and that the government would not hesitate to shut down any petrol station who failed to comply with its directives.
Aikulola called on motorists across the state to be law-abiding, and assured them that the government would protect their interests.
