Ohaneze Ndigbo Urges FG to Uphold Rule of Law in Nnamdi Kanu Case

The Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Damian Okeke-Ogene, has called on the Federal Government to release Mr Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a press conference held yesterday, Okeke-Ogene stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting the fundamental human rights of individuals.

Highlighting recent endorsements from prominent figures such as Anambra Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and other stakeholders, Okeke-Ogene emphasized that now is the opportune time for the government to heed these calls and release Kanu.

“The restoration and promotion of the rule of law is essential for stabilizing our polity,” said Okeke-Ogene. “By respecting the fundamental human rights of individuals, we restore the people’s confidence in governance. It is imperative that the government shuns calls for Kanu’s continued detention.”

Okeke-Ogene also strongly condemned the recent comments made by ex-Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, who urged the government not to release Kanu. He asserted that Dokubo’s call was driven by personal and selfish interests to gain favor from the government.

Speaking on the legal aspect of Kanu’s detention, Okeke-Ogene stated, “Different courts of competent jurisdiction have already acquitted Kanu, hence his continuous detention is not in the interest of the country.” He assured that Igbo stakeholders remain steadfast in their efforts to secure Kanu’s release.

In response to the recent demolition of buildings at Alaba Market in Lagos State, Okeke-Ogene called for calm among Igbos in the area. He assured them that the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo is actively working towards a peaceful resolution of the matter to protect their interests.
