NDIC Holds Strong to Ethical Standards Amidst Allegations of Financial Impropriety

June 26, 2023 – The National Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards in its corporate governance practices while investigating allegations of financial impropriety against one of its staff members.

In a statement released to the media and signed by Bashir A. Nuhu, the Director of the Communications & Public Affairs Department of the Corporation, NDIC clarified that the allegations have no connection to its operations.

The Corporation expressed its determination to thoroughly investigate the matter until the truth is uncovered.

“We have taken note of the media reports by the Peoples’ Gazette and Sahara Reporters regarding allegations of financial impropriety involving one of our staff members. We want to emphasize that these alleged incidents are completely unrelated to the activities of the Corporation. Nevertheless, as a responsible federal institution, we are committed to ascertaining the truth and addressing the issue appropriately,” the statement read.

The preliminary investigations conducted by NDIC revealed that the staff member in question had previously worked as an account officer to a Federal Government Official in a commercial bank before joining NDIC in 2017.

During her tenure at the bank, the staff member asserts that she had no involvement in any improper financial transactions with anyone. However, NDIC remains diligent in its pursuit of any conflicting information and will not hesitate to take necessary action if any discrepancies arise concerning the staff member involved.

“The NDIC’s principles are rooted in a zero-tolerance policy towards financial impropriety and any actions that go against our core values, corporate culture, and code of conduct,” the statement emphasized.

Nuhu further highlighted that the Corporation has dedicated itself to maintaining the highest ethical standards in corporate governance practices, which have been diligently cultivated over the past three decades of its existence. These efforts aim to fulfill NDIC’s role of protecting depositors and contributing to the stability of the financial system.

As the investigation progresses, NDIC assures the public and stakeholders that it remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency, accountability, and upholding integrity within its operations.
