Labour President Absent As Presidential Steering Committee On Palliatives Resumed meeting

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, is absent at the resumed meeting of the Presidential Steering Committee on Palliatives.

The meeting was adjourned on Monday to allow members of the Committee listen to President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast.

Leaders of the two labour centres were at the resumed meeting on Tuesday.

The Steering Committee, comprising the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, the Trade Union Congress, TUC of Nigeria ,and the government team was set up by the government to consider the proposed palliatives for workers to cushion the effect of the removal of petrol subsidy that has caused hardship to many Nigerians.

However, the NLC delegation at the meeting is led by the General Secretary, Emma Ugbaja,

The President of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Festus Osifo, is at the meeting with other members of the labour centre.

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other government officials are at the meeting.

Organized labour said; “it would begin a strike on Wednesday following if government did not reverse policies that have heightened hardship in Nigeria.”
