FG Inaugurates Skillnovation Programme to Provide Digital Skills to 3 Million Nigerians

Vice President Kashim Shettima launched the ‘Skillnovation Programme’ on Friday, which aims to equip over three million Nigerians with essential digital skills to thrive in the information technology revolution. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to ensure the success of citizens in the global economy.

As part of the Skillnovation Programme, 15 state-of-the-art Information Communication Technology Centres will be established strategically across the country. This program will provide individuals and businesses with access to cutting-edge digital training, resources, and support.

Phase One Implementation

The first phase of the Skillnovation Programme will be implemented in Katsina, Anambra, Borno, Lagos, Oyo, and Kano states. These states will benefit from the initiative by extending the reach of economic and social interactions, as well as enhancing productivity growth in the country.

Phase Two Implementation

The second phase of the Skillnovation Programme will be implemented in Delta, Kaduna, Ogun, Bauchi, Kwara, and Ekiti states. This phase aims to unlock the immense potential of Nigeria’s expanding MSMEs sector, which currently stands at close to 40 million. The initiative will provide the necessary tools and skills for MSMEs to thrive and compete globally.

Vice President Shettima described the Skillnovation Programme as a transformative initiative that will usher in a new era of digital empowerment for Nigerians. He emphasized that digital skills have become the cornerstone of economic ease and expansion in today’s modern business environment, influenced by the fourth industrial revolution.

Nigeria, with its vast MSMEs sector, has the potential to lead business innovation beyond Africa. The Skillnovation Programme aims to support and unleash this potential. It is in line with the government’s commitment to empowering youths and MSMEs and creating a more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.

Vice President Shettima affirmed the government’s dedication to support and be the allies of the citizens who aspire to compete on the global stage through enhanced skills. The ‘Skillnovation Programme’ is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
