Release N217bn for 260 roads to Umahi, Nigerians happy with minister – Ohanaeze to Tinubu, Akpabio

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, apex Igbo sociocultural organization, has called on President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to release the N217 billion for the 260 roads to the Ministry of Works.

This was as Ohanaeze applauded Tinubu for releasing funds for the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge in Enugu State and other projects across the country, noting that Nigerians deserve sustainability and integrity of the roads constructed for their daily use.

In a statement by its factional Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group expressed its happiness with Tinubu’s focus on road rehabilitation and construction of road pavement using cement technology, as sanctioned by the Minister of Works and approved by President Tinubu.

The group said Nigerians are following up on the transparent activities of the Ministry of Works and are backing Minister Dave Umahi’s demands for N217 billion to reconstruct 260 roads and eight bridges across the country.

The statement reads: “Ohanaeze emphasized that the Southeast region is in dire need of infrastructural development, especially the reconstruction of all major Federal roads which are death traps.

“The Southeast has suffered neglect for a long period on road construction until now, and Nigerians and Ndigbo, in particular, are asking President Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to listen to the cries of suffering Nigerians and release funds of N217billion for the Ministry of Works to give Nigerians good roads.”

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo highlighted that roads are key factors for the revolution of the nation’s commerce, education, security, and power.

Isiguzoro stressed that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and Senate should ensure that the passage of N217 billion is attainable, as it will greatly benefit the Nigerian people and contribute to the overall development of the nation.
