Appeal court affirms Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan as Kogi Central Senator

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on Tuesday, affirmed Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan as the duly elected senator to represent the Kogi Central Senatorial District.

Media Talk Africa recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the February 25 polls.

But Akpoti-Uduagan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sought redress in court, claiming that her mandate was stolen by the ruling party.

Ruling on the matter, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja had, in September, nullified the election of the APC candidate.

However, Ohere had headed to the appellate court to set aside the ruling, but the court further upheld Akpoti-Uduagan as the winner of the poll.

In its ruling on Tuesday, the court dismissed the appeal filed by Ohere for lacking in merit.
