Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has called on the state’s residents to engage in fervent prayers to seek divine intervention in addressing the persistent insecurity issues. This appeal was made by the governor’s chief of staff, Hon. Mukhtar Lugga, during the commencement of the state’s 27th Qur’anic recitation competition.

Lawal’s plea comes in the wake of the abduction of over 100 villagers by bandits in Mutunji and three other communities in the Maru Local Government Area of the State on Friday.

Addressing the abduction and the prevailing security concerns in the rural areas, Lawal stated that the government has taken measures by recruiting 4,200 Community Protection Guards (CPGs) to tackle the appalling acts in the State.

Notably, during the recent incidents, a notorious bandit leader, popularly known as Damina, orchestrated an attack on four villages within the Dansadau district, resulting in the abduction of over 100 residents.

Local sources from the affected communities revealed that the bandits resorted to the violent actions due to the communities’ failure to pay harvesting levies, leading to the harrowing ordeal that ensued.
