Vincent Enyeama Addresses Super Eagles Goalkeeper Curse Rumors

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, recently spoke out about the emergence of Stanley Nwabali as the new number one goalkeeper for Nigeria, putting an end to the superstition that he had cursed the team. Enyeama, who retired from international football after 101 caps for Nigeria due to a disagreement with the then-head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has been a topic of discussion since his departure as the national team has struggled to find a suitable replacement for him.

The current situation saw coach Jose Peseiro calling up Nwabali for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, as Maduka Okoye was unavailable and Francis Uzoho’s performances were not convincing. Despite not having played any competitive games prior to the tournament, Nwabali impressed everyone as the team made it to the final.

In a recent interview with Lagos Talks FM, Enyeama expressed his thoughts on the situation, saying, “I think Stanley (Nwabali) came in at the right time; for a long time, we have been clamoring for a goalkeeper. We didn’t readily have Okoye, and Uzoho had done well with the national team, but his form is unfortunate. I pray he continues in this good form and ends all the talks about me cursing the national team or casting a spell on the national team.”

Enyeama also addressed the accusations and nasty messages he received, stating, “I didn’t curse the national team; if I had the power to do that, I could have currently changed the economic fortunes of Nigeria.” He expressed gratitude for Nwabali stepping up and changing the narrative surrounding him.

The emergence of Nwabali as a promising goalkeeper for Nigeria has not only brought hope to the team but has also put an end to the superstitions and rumors surrounding Enyeama. As the Super Eagles continue to strive for success, the focus is now on the future and the talented players leading the team to new heights.
