Dortmund’s Adeyemi sets new all-time Bundesliga speed record

Germany International Karim Adeyemi set a new Bundesliga speed record on Matchday 19, in Borussia Dortmund’s 5-1 win over Freiburg on Saturday.

The 21-year-old forward was clocked at a rapid speed of 22.77 mph in the second half, as Borussia Dortmund breezed to a comfortable victory at Signal Iduna Park.

Adeyemi’s speed beat the previous record, set by former Mainz player Jeremiah St. Juste at 27.76 mph in the 2021/22 season, in a 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin, Sport Bible reports.

Karim Adeyemi also hit another milestone that day, bagging his first-ever home Bundesliga goal in the win, which kept Dortmund in the top 4, three points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

It was a day of milestones for the 21-year-old, who also scored his first-ever home Bundesliga goal during the victory as Dortmund have kept their winning streak up since the return from the winter break.

The win will also be remembered for Sebastien Haller’s first competitive goal since recovering from testicular cancer, heading home from a Raphael Guerreiro cross to make it 3-1.

The Bundesliga have several rapid players that make up their fastest players list, with the likes of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and (now) PSG’s Achraf Hakimi included in the top 5.

The Bundesliga’s five fastest players of all time:

1. Karim Adeyemi (Dortmund): 22.77 mph (36.65 km/h) – 2022/23

2. Jeremiah St. Juste (Mainz): 22.76 mph (36.63 km/h) – 2021/22

3. Moussa Diaby (Bayer Leverkusen): 22.69 mph (36.52 km/h) – 2022/23

4. Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich): 22.69 (36.51 km/h) – 2019/20

5. Achraf Hakimi (Dortmund): 22.67 (36.49 km/h) – 2019/20
