Jigawa State, Nigeria — Professor Haruna Musa, the Executive Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has reassured teachers that the ongoing assessment test is designed to reform the education system rather than to identify faults. During his address to teachers at an assessment test centre in Dutse, the state capital, on Sunday, Professor Musa emphasized that this initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to enhance the quality of basic education. He clarified that the purpose of the exercise is not to target or punish teachers, but to identify practical strategies for strengthening the education sector.
“We are not here to look for faults or shortcomings among you,” he stated. “Our focus is to work hand-in-hand with you to reform our basic education system.” He highlighted the importance of teachers as critical partners in this reform process, noting that their experiences, challenges, and suggestions are essential for shaping effective policies. “Your input will help us deliver meaningful and lasting impact in our classrooms,” he added.
Professor Musa encouraged teachers to remain committed to their responsibilities, continue inspiring their pupils, and embrace innovation and positive changes in their teaching methods. He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration and mutual trust between educators and policymakers would lead to significant progress in Jigawa’s education sector. Furthermore, he commended teachers for their dedication and unwavering service, wishing them a productive and fulfilling week ahead. The assessment exercise is part of a broader reform agenda under the administration of Governor Umar Namadi, aimed at raising standards in basic education throughout the state.
