Colbert Weighs in on Kamala Harris Memes and “Brat” Label

Comedy Legend Stephen Colbert Weighs in on Kamala Harris Memes

In a recent episode of his popular late-night show, Stephen Colbert has joined the conversation surrounding the surge of memes surrounding Vice President Kamala Harris since she became the Democratic party’s presumptive presidential nominee. The comedian and TV host has proudly embraced the label “brat” and even treated his audience to a repeat performance of the Charli XCX “Apple” dance.

Colbert’s Wednesday night monologue focused on Harris’ much-memed “fell out of a coconut tree” speech from 2023. In the speech, Harris began by making a lighthearted metaphor, but quickly shifted to an existential point about human existence. Colbert quipped that this tone shift could be a preview of some interesting presidential announcements, joking that Harris didn’t just slip on a banana peel into a kiddie pool full of pudding, but instead ordered air strikes on Syria.

The Late Show host also addressed CNN’s awkward “Kamala is brat” segment, in which five adults over 32 attempted to understand the Harris presidential campaign’s use of memes. Colbert noted that simply printing out a meme and putting on reading glasses doesn’t necessarily make someone up-to-date on current trends.

Colbert’s commentary on the Harris memes has sparked a lively conversation about the role of humor and social media in politics. As the 2024 presidential election approaches, it remains to be seen how Harris and her campaign will continue to use memes to connect with voters and build their brand. One thing is certain, however: Stephen Colbert will be keeping a close eye on the situation and bringing his signature wit and humor to the conversation.
