Election Cancellation Demanded in Benue State’s Ogbadibo Local Government
Nigeria’s democratic process has suffered a significant blow following the alleged botched local government poll in Ogbadibo, Benue State. Adoyi Williams Enenche, the Labour Party, LP, candidate, has called for the immediate cancellation of the election due to the complete absence of electoral proceedings across the local government area.
According to Enenche, his team was present at his polling unit in Adupi Orokam Ward 1 on election day, but they found no electoral officials on the ground to conduct the election. Reports from his agents in various polling units across Owukpa, Orokam, and Otukpa confirmed that no election took place in any part of Ogbadibo local government.
The situation has been corroborated by Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader, who described the exercise as a charade. Enenche has described the events of Saturday as an injustice to the people of Ogbadibo, but also an insult to the Nigerian democratic process as a whole.
In a statement, Enenche demanded the immediate cancellation of the sham election and the organization of a fresh, credible election where the people of Ogbadibo can freely exercise their right to vote. He also called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to uphold the values of fairness and justice by ensuring that the election is annulled and a new one is organized that reflects the will of the people.
The demands come as a crucial time for Nigeria’s democratic growth, where concerns over the credibility of elections continue to mount. The people of Ogbadibo, Benue State, are left feeling disenfranchised and disillusioned with the current situation. As the country moves forward, it is essential to ensure that the voices of the people are heard and their rights respected.
With the controversy surrounding the election, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold. One thing is clear, however, that the people of Ogbadibo are deserving of better, and it is the responsibility of those in power to ensure that their rights are protected.
