Former WWE Champion Omos Opens Up About His Move to Japan and Potential Return to WWE
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, former RAW Tag Team Champion Omos shared his thoughts on his decision to wrestle in Japan while still under contract with WWE. The 33-year-old superstar, who hasn’t been seen on WWE’s weekly programming since last year, revealed that he was inspired by his peers, Tavion Heights and Josh Briggs, who had also made the move to Japan.
Omos expressed his surprise and delight when he discovered that Japanese wrestling legend Great Muta had mentioned him as someone he would love to face in Japan. "I saw Tavion Heights of NXT and Josh Briggs go to Japan. I was just watching the videos and everything. Then, as they were doing shows in Japan, an interview came out with Great Muta, they asked him, ‘Who would you love to have in Japan?’ The first name he mentions is me. I’m like, ‘Oh, wow. That’s great. I didn’t think he would remember me, but he did,’" Omos said.
The former champion also credited Road Dogg with giving him the opportunity to wrestle in Japan, an experience he doesn’t regret. "I kind of threw the idea to a couple of guys about Japan. I remember seeing Road Dogg at the PC, ‘Hey, do you have a couple of minutes to chat? Not really busy right now, but I would love to go to Japan.’ He said, ‘You know what? Let me think about it.’ And then a couple months later, he was like, ‘Hey, you have an opportunity to go to Japan. Do you want to go?’ I was like, ‘Yes! I want to go to Japan.’ To be honest, I am glad I did. I needed to go to Japan," Omos added.
During his time in Japan, Omos had a successful outing with Pro Wrestling NOAH, winning the GHC Tag Team Championship alongside Jack Morris. However, he hasn’t wrestled for any promotion since January 2025, leaving fans wondering when he will return to the WWE.
When asked about his potential return to WWE TV, Omos remained uncertain but expressed his eagerness to make a comeback. "I don’t know. I’m just waiting. I’m kind of in a scenario where I’m kind of like a special attraction. Whenever that time comes, I’m ready," he said.
As the wrestling world awaits Omos’ return, one thing is certain – his experience in Japan has left a lasting impact on his career, and fans are eager to see what’s next for this talented superstar. With his unique blend of size, strength, and charisma, Omos is sure to make a significant impact whenever he decides to step back into the ring.
