NNPP Declares Readiness for Osun Gubernatorial Election

Lagos LG poll: NNPP to select candidates by consensus

Nigeria’s Osun State is gearing up for a pivotal gubernatorial election, with the Nigerian National Peoples Party (NNPP) declaring its readiness to take on the incumbent government. The party’s announcement comes on the heels of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fixing August 8, 2026, as the date for the highly anticipated election.

According to Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, the state chairman of NNPP, the party is eager to challenge the Ademola Adeleke-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government, which he accuses of relying on propaganda to govern the state. Odeyemi expressed his party’s enthusiasm for the upcoming election, stating that they cannot wait to “sack” the current administration.

The NNPP chairman emphasized the importance of voting based on conscience rather than emotion, highlighting the need for citizens to make informed decisions at the polls. To achieve this, the party plans to embark on a tour of every ward in Osun State to sensitize citizens and encourage them to vote for their preferred candidates.

In a statement, Odeyemi extended an invitation to individuals with good intentions of governing Osun State, pledging to welcome them with open arms and treat them equally with existing party members. He also expressed the party’s willingness to collaborate with people-oriented political parties that share their vision of salvaging the state from what they describe as a “government of nepotism.”

As the election draws near, Odeyemi cautioned political actors in the state to play by the rules, warning against any attempts to destabilize the state due to selfish interests. The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, recently announced the scheduled dates for the Ekiti and Osun elections, setting the stage for what promises to be a closely watched and potentially surprising contest.

With the NNPP’s declaration of readiness and the INEC’s announcement of the election date, the stage is set for a fascinating political showdown in Osun State. As the parties and candidates prepare to face off, citizens are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to shape the future of their state through the democratic process.
