According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Serie A leaders Napoli are considering Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta as a potential replacement for Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, should he leave the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this summer. Osimhen, who has been outstanding for Napoli since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, is currently the highest goalscorer in Serie A, boasting 18 goals and four assists in 19 league appearances. His impressive performance has drawn interest from several top clubs in the English Premier League, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Additionally, major teams like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are closely monitoring the Super Eagles striker.

While Napoli aims to retain its best players, the club’s sporting director, Giuntoli, would be prepared to respond if a significant offer for Osimhen were to come from the Premier League. In such a scenario, Hojlund would be a favored option, representing a talent worth investing in for the future. The 20-year-old striker has already made an impact in Serie A, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 19 appearances for Atalanta since joining the club last season for €17 million. His potential sale could be significant for Atalanta.

Napoli made Osimhen the most expensive African player in history when they acquired him from LOSC Lille for €75 million in 2021, with the total fee exceeding €80 million when including additional players in the deal. As the summer transfer window approaches, Spanish outlet Sport has reported that Arsenal and Real Madrid are engaged in a transfer “war” for Hojlund’s signature.
