Governor Darius Ishaku, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the Southern Taraba Senatorial District, called for an extension of voting hours in Taraba State due to delays in the start of voting in several areas. Ishaku made this appeal on Saturday after casting his vote at polling unit PU 004 in Takum around 12:20 PM. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow additional time for voters in regions where electoral materials arrived late, enabling them to participate in the election.
While it was too early for Ishaku to assess the effectiveness of the Bi-modal Accreditation System technology implemented by INEC, he expressed optimism that the PDP would secure victories in the Presidential and National Assembly elections within his constituency. He noted, “We had hitches regarding the distribution of election materials, and it was sorted out late. Most areas received their voting materials late, and I want to appeal to INEC to extend the voting time beyond 2 PM.”
In a related incident, the results forms ECE8 for the presidential and National Assembly elections were reported missing in Takum. This situation prompted security agencies to recall all vehicles that had departed for various wards in the Takum Local Government Area, asking them to return to Takum late last night to address the issue of the missing result sheets. Hon. James Ugo, a councillor representing Chanchanji Ward, accompanied the election materials back to Takum around 1:45 AM and later confirmed that the election result sheets were found among the materials for Dutse Ward.
Usman Abdullahi, the police public relations officer for the Taraba State Command, confirmed the initial report of the missing result sheets but stated that the matter had been resolved. He explained, “The election result sheets were declared missing, and the Electoral Officer was held in custody, but the result sheets were later found.”
