Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has expressed concern over the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) failure to provide an adequate number of access cards for party agents monitoring the voting process at the state’s 5,042 polling units. The governor made this statement on Saturday after casting his vote at his polling unit, Ward 3, Polling Unit 002, Ita Osanyin, Iperu, in the Ikenne Local Government Area.

Abiodun noted that he had not yet confirmed the reasons behind INEC’s decision to limit the distribution of access cards to party agents. He mentioned receiving numerous complaints from All Progressives Congress (APC) agents monitoring the election at various polling units throughout the state. He stated, “I just exercised my franchise in full public glare. From all that I have been told so far, I believe the exercise appears to be going well enough. There were a few hitches early this morning, and they centered on agents’ identification tags.”

The governor added, “I am told that INEC did not provide enough cards for agents to identify themselves as they presented themselves at various polling units. I am yet to confirm what caused that; I am not sure whether this applies to all parties, but our party agents have complained that they were short of quite a few agents’ cards.” Despite these issues, he expressed optimism, stating that arrangements had been made and that voting had commenced. He remarked on the impressive voter turnout and hoped that the positive experiences observed at his polling unit and a few others would reflect the overall situation across all polling units in the state.
